I joined the Society in January 2023 after a friend invited me to an Art Society afternoon tea and talk on Scottish Art by Lachlan Goudie.  Soon after I joined the Committee and became Chair in July 2024.

I joined the Arts Society to get a better work/life balance and transition into retirement. I have really enjoyed meeting new friends and getting involved in the wide variety of art and cultural events on offer.  My favourite lectures since joining have been "The Art of Quackery" (hearing all about the weird and inventive "cures" over the years) and "Cave Art" (our connections to the past through the amazing images and skills hidden therein). 

I am married and enjoy musical theatre and exploring Scotland with husband David and our Staffie.

I am a retired GP, I moved to Scotland 4 years ago and have a variety of interests including hiking, travel, photography, bridge in addition to the arts.

I have been a member for some years and joined the committee in 2014.  Previously treasurer and Chair from 2020-24. 

I had a career of 35 years in computing before early retirement but have always loved visiting museums and art galleries although I have no artistic talents myself.  "I know what I like" which is not always the same as others, so I love our varied programmes that allow me to get some insight into things I may have otherwise ignored.

An SME in the aerobic propagation of yeast, fungi & bacteria.  I enjoy developing industrial fermentation processes to produce taste and flavour components for the food and drink sectors.  Currently operating as a consultant in the alternative proteins sector but, for light-relief, I am working on an MSc in Brewing and Distilling whilst setting-up a fermentation laboratory in my garage.

My big regret was not attending free Fine Art lectures at St Andrews where I studied languages. I went to the coffee shop instead! In retirement I joined Solihull Arts Society and Stirling four years ago.

After two years at the university of Cape Town I spent much of my career attracting international conferences to Scotland, as a Blue Badge tour guide in Scotland and London and as a travel consultant with Trailfinders. Travel is still my passion.

I have been a member of Stirling and Forth Valley Arts Society since 2022 and joined the committee last year.We are a very friendly group and I enjoy the lectures as they are so varied.

I retired a few years ago as an Education Advisor and one of the aspects of the job I loved was meeting so many people. I look forward to getting to know more members of our society.

I have been a member of the Arts Society since I retired from my job as buyer for the retail shops within Glasgow Museums. I used to feel it was very cool to say my office was “ up the stairs on the left hand side of Christ of Saint John on the Cross by Salvador Dali” in Kelvingove Art Gallery and Museum.
I will always head straight to the shop within any art gallery/ museum and I love the opportunity within the Arts Society to visit places of interest.

I have a particular interest in the Classics and travel regularly to seek out the treasures and locations of the ancient world.
